Refill early, rotate the old
Call your pharmacy for refills the day you hit a week of pills left, not the day you run out. That one habit builds a buffer without asking for anything extra. Write the drug name, dose, and prescriber on a card in your wallet. Keep a three day supply in your go bag and swap it every refill so nothing expires in the pocket.

First cold night, first furnace burn
Northern states get their first frost warnings this month. The furnace fires up after months of sitting, and dust, nests, and a cracked heat exchanger all show up on the same night. Test carbon monoxide alarms now and replace any unit older than the date stamped inside. Run the heat for fifteen minutes with windows open while you are awake. If an alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call the fire department.
The Drill
Every bottle on the counter tonight
Tonight, line up every prescription and over the counter bottle in the house. Count what is left in each one. Write the date you will run out on the lid with a marker. Any bottle under fourteen days gets a refill call tomorrow morning. Throw out anything past its expiration date and add it to the shopping list.
