Light Should Help You See
Bad lighting can make glare and shadows. Good lighting shows faces, steps, doors, and paths.
Start with the places people enter: front door, back door, garage, gate, and driveway.
Use Motion Carefully
Motion lights save power and draw attention. Aim them low enough to light the area, not the sky or a neighbor’s window.
Test them at night. Stand where a visitor would stand. See if the light helps or blinds you.
Cover Paths
Trips and falls are common. A safer property is not only about crime. Light steps, uneven paths, and tool areas.
Solar path lights can help, but many are weak. Check them after dark before trusting them.
Keep Spares
Bulbs fail. Batteries die. Keep spare bulbs or backup lights where you can find them.
Clean dirty lenses. A dusty light throws less light.
