Start With Common Problems

Emergency gear should solve common problems first. Think stuck doors, loose screws, small leaks, dark rooms, and cleanup after a storm.

You do not need a giant shop. You need a small kit that is easy to find.

Pack Useful Basics

Keep the kit in one box or bag. Label it clearly. Put it where adults can reach it fast.

A starter kit can include:

  • Work gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Screwdrivers
  • Pliers
  • Utility tape
  • Zip ties
  • Trash bags
  • Marker
  • Measuring tape

Add shutoff tools if your home needs them. Learn how to use them before there is a leak.

Keep It Safe

Store sharp edges covered. Keep heavy tools low. Keep the kit away from children if needed.

Do not use tools on power, gas, or major plumbing unless you know what you are doing. Call trained help when the job is beyond you.

Check It Twice A Year

Tools wander. Tape dries out. Flashlights lose charge. Open the kit every spring and fall.

Replace what is missing. Charge what needs charging. Remove broken items.

What To Do Today

Spend ten minutes putting gloves, a flashlight, tape, and pliers in one box.

Label it emergency tools.
